For more information on the asylum process and how you may assist with our mission, please review our brochure here.
Our vision is a welcoming community in Worcester, Massachusetts, USA, in which every LGBTQI asylum seeker is met with love, support, and the resources needed to achieve independence and healing.
The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Asylum Task Force is a ministry of Hadwen Park Church and a community-based organization dedicated to supporting and empowering LGBTQI individuals who are seeking asylum in the United States.
Asylum seekers who file for asylum in the United States are not permitted to work until they are granted a work permit and social security number, a process which can take more than a year. During that time, we strive to provide housing and financial support.
Our goal is to educate the public in an effort to change policy around the globe so that someday no LGBTQI person will need to seek asylum because of their sexual orientation or gender identity and the need to find a safe place.
Founded in June 2008, our founding goal and continuing mission is to support the basic human needs of LGBTQI people seeking asylum in the United States. We strive to provide/find/facilitate: housing, food, clothing, resources (ex. health care, psychological care, faith communities), cellphones (vital for contact with lawyers & family), and transportation.
Task Force volunteers have raised money and sourced donations to support almost 200 individuals during their asylum-seeking process.
